While insomnia prevails among a notable proportion of adults, children too suffer from sleep disorders. Insomnia in children is characterized by signs of wakefulness or restlessness daily at night, irritability or heaviness on waking from sleep, mood swings, lack of concentration, and unusual difficulty with remembering.


Causes of Insomnia in Children


In children, the causes of insomnia are generally more easy to work out that in grown ups. If your child suffers from any of the symptoms listed above, look for any one or more of these causes that usually cause sleep disorders in children: stress, diet, anxiety, fear, physical problems (constipation, pain etc.), and disturbed routine (watching TV late in the night, over use of computer, video games etc.)


Insomnia in Women


A good number of women suffer from sleep disorders in early pregnancy. Insomnia In Early Pregnancy Is Mostly Caused By Discomfort And Anxiety. Most people attribute the sleep disorders in early pregnancy to the hormonal imbalances – while in some cases this would be true, there are plenty instances where the insomnia in early pregnancy is caused by the excitement and anxiety of being pregnant. . Coping With sleep disorders during Pregnancy


The first thing to do is to prevent you from getting overly anxious, just looking at the time and worrying about sleep. Taking a warm bath, before going to bed, brings comfort and relaxes you to sleep. Relaxation exercises like yoga and meditation etc. are helpful in relieving anxiety and bringing sleep. You can also ask your partner for a massage. Take plenty of exercise during the day or in the evening but not too close to bedtime. Exercise will make you tired and hence drive you to sleep. Also try to avoid taking naps in the day. If you get up several times to urinate during the course of the night, take fewer fluids after 4 pm. Also avoid taking caffeine drinks in the evening. Their stimulating effect is a sleep antagonist. Keep the temperature of the bedroom at a comfortable level. Keep the window open for fresh air to reach you. Use additional blankets to keep you warm if the room feels cold.


Menopause and Insomnia in Women


Women going through their menopause frequently suffer from insomnia. Menopause and sleep disorders co-occur due to the reduction and imbalance of hormones associated with menopause. The resulting stress, anxiety, and depression deprive the menopausal woman of sleep. Accompanying these sleep disturbances are hot flashes and sweats that are the characteristic symptoms of menopause.


Treatment for Menopausal Insomnia


Insomnia is treated in a variety of ways like prescribed medications, herbal formulas, relaxation techniques, exercises, psychological treatment (if anxiety or depression are the main cause), lifestyle changes, home remedies and nutrition etc. For menopause and sleep disorders co-occurring, hormone replacement therapy is also used. Western medicine plays a significant role today. Their diagnostics and surgical procedures are world class and there are many doctors today tending towards recommending healthy alternative therapies. However, the tradition of prescribing medications that are heavily marketed by the multinational drug Corporations and the societal side effects have to be addressed.

 

These drugs have power over us. They corner us and make us feel small. We turn to the western model for help when we are trying to seek balance and their medicinal options make us become needy and weak. They do not arm us with the tools necessary to face this world and our role in it. All purpose is lost when all we are doing is surviving by synthetically detaching. There is a general belief when seeking this help that the antidepressants and painkillers prescribed are the doorway to doing the right thing for your life, ‘taking control’. Western pharmaceuticals are the Backdoor OUT of people’s lives and people are taking them because they want to feel better. How can you feel better when you have no control over yourself? Managing Stress Caused By Your Organizations

We live in a society of joiners.We like to join churches, clubs, and fraternal organizations. We like to join classes and magazine subscription drives. We simply enjoy being with other people, and so we spend much of our lives in groups.


Certainly, this is a good thing not only for our own mental health, but also for the good of society as a whole.And yet, no organization is a perfect entity. Organizations often breed conflict within their ranks.


The conflicts may be between people on the same level, or between people at different levels of the organizational hierarchy. The conflicts may be one-time disagreements, or bruising fights which last for eons. While some conflicts can be attributed to personality clashes, others stem from the organization itself.


Whether you’re involved in parent-teacher organizations or a writers free speech group, you might find that you’re running up against organization-induced stress. This can come in a variety of forms.To begin with, it might be caused by the fact that the organization seems to have lost its sense of purpose.


It may be wandering aimlessly and lack clearly-defined goals. As a result, you might feel a great deal of stress since you aren’t certain where the organization is headed or even if you want to go along for the ride.


If you come across this problem, the best thing to do is to air your concerns to someone in a position of authority. It is entirely possible that the leadership will ignore your concerns, but at least you’ve tried.

If you fail to achieve a workable solution, you might then be forced to leave the organization. But you’ll leave knowing that you attempted to have a positive impact.


While most organizations have people in positions of leadership, many groups lack true leaders. As a result, members of the organization may experience a great deal of stress, having to deal with constant uncertainty.

A true leader takes charge of an organization. He or she has a clear vision of what needs to be accomplished and promotes a team atmosphere in order to get the job done.


If you are in an organization that appears to be leaderless, try to identify potential leaders. Encourage them to seek leadership, and assure them that you will support their candidacies. Such a strategy can help to alleviate the stress of all concerned.


Another problem that can lead to stress is an uncooperative organizational culture. There may be a feeling that each person in the organization is on his or her own, that each person should be an independent operator.


As a result, the individuals within the organization may feel isolated and alone. The best defense against such a situation is healthy communication. Talk to other members of the group and find out if they are sensing an uncooperative atmosphere too.


Then, get together and confront the person in charge. You might be amazed at what your small committee can do to effect change within the organization and you might find your stress level subsiding considerably.


Yet another stress-inducing situation is organizational pessimism. Do members feel as if things will never get better? Are they frustrated and angry? Is there a sense of hopelessness in the ranks?


If so, you and other members of the group may be experiencing a great deal of stress. You can lessen the stress by promoting a positive attitude.


Make sure that you offer positive input when confronted with problems, and encourage other members of the organization to do the same. With a little bit of effort, you can turn your organization around and lessen your stress in the process.


Organizational stress may take you by surprise. You might have joined the organization to relieve your stress, so when stress occurs in the group, you need to undergo a major attitude re-adjustment.


The important thing to remember in such a situation is that you are not alone. Chances are other members of the group are experiencing the same kinds of things that you are. 2012 – Sun Storms and Cosmic Radiation

This finding started immediate worldwide speculation about a forthcoming polar reversal. In an instant, modern science lined up with the predictions of scientists of a far-distant past. This cannot be a coincidence! Thousands of years ago, priests were able to calculate that the magnetic field of the Earth would collapse at the end of 2012, at the zenith of the catastrophe. And now, eons later in time, one person comes up with an identical idea. Only the present scientists still do not realize what the consequences will be: they think that electronic equipment will experience some problems, that the migration of many animals will be disturbed, and that there might be a problem with radiation. They do not expect much more than that. But this is diametrically opposed to what the Maya and the Old Egyptians predicted.

In the books from Patrick Geryl, he has clearly described the disastrous effects of a pole shift. However, he hardly dealt with one issue: radioactive radiation and wondered worriedly what effect this will have on the Earth? Are people and animals able to handle this? And what can we do to guard ourselves against it?

Given his knowledge of astronomy, he got quickly clear answers. It is known that particles coming from the stars and our sun collide with the magnetic field of the Earth. Highly charged, energetic cosmic particles are hardly hindered by the magnetic field-they just pass through it, and it doesn’t matter whether their charge is neutral, positive or negative. However, in the Earth’s atmosphere they collide with oxygen and nitrogen molecules, which render them less harmful. Low energy cosmic radiation is normally deflected to the poles. When the magnetic field is pressurized and disappears, you will not have this tunnel effect anymore and the particles will fall randomly on Earth. The effect of this is small and does not imply a threat for plants, animals or humans. Therefore, at first he thought we would not have much to fear from harmful radiation. Then he started to study the situation a bit more carefully; it appeared he had somehow underestimated the consequences. A first deduction was not so difficult to make.

Ultraviolet Radiation
Everybody knows that you can get severely burnt while in high mountains and that you need to protect yourself well against the solar radiation. The higher you are, the more intense the radiation is. No doubt about that. You only have to ask mountain climbers who use protection factors of twenty or more. Close to the fatal date, a lot of us who plan to survive will be at an altitude of three kilometers (9000 feet) or more. Under normal circumstances there would be no problem. However, at the peak of the catastrophe, the light intensity of the sun will increase tremendously. An all-scorching light will be sent in the direction of the Earth. The intensity of ultraviolet radiation, which is responsible for the degradation of the ozone layer, will rise quite spectacularly. You can guess the consequences: you will risk burning unprotected skin, making it as black as carbon in this radiation inferno.

Just one solution will remedy the situation: wear protective clothing that stops the ultraviolet radiation as much as possible. It is the only way to prevent fatal burns. This is an essential part of the planning. Those who take their chances with boats will have fewer effects from the radiation, because the atmosphere absorbs a lot. Although they will be subjected to a minimal amount of the exposure compared to those in the high mountains, they still need to be careful. Direct exposure to the solar radiation for a short time is possible, but surely not for too long. However, the others in the high mountains will have to be extremely careful. They will have to protect themselves to the utmost against radiation. In most cases, wearing a good sunscreen, thick clothes and a hat will be sufficient to protect them.

Well, this was good reasoning, but in the meantime his thoughts went on. What else could be of importance? What other surprises does the sun have in store for us? Could it be worse?

Microsoft Small Business Financials conversion to Dynamics GP Notes

One of the recommended options for the future (Small Business Financials version 9.0 is the last one available) is migration to Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Ready.  To remind you the history of Great Plains Small Business Manager 7.0 – this was specially scaled down code of Great Plains Dynamics, where Dexterity dictionary (Dynamics.dic) was simplified.  However most of the tables names, forms technical names in SBF 9.0. 8.0, 7.5 or 7.0 are similar to Great Plains or its successor Dynamics GP respective objects.  Let’s review migration path and steps:

1. Small Business Financials upgrade to version 9.0.  If you are still on older versions: 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, you will need to upgrade, prior to migration to Dynamics GP.  SBF upgrade is typically simple and you should not expect major problems or issues, assuming that you do not have complex modifications, customizations (including in-house programmed Dexterity add-ons), ongoing data integration, etc.  Small Business Financials was not exposed to advanced customization, reporting and programming tools, this is one of the reasons why version upgrade is relatively smooth

2. Migration tool: SBF 9.0 to Dynamics GP 9.0.  You can request this tool from your Small Business Financials and likely future Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner or Reseller.  Dynamics GP VAR can download this tool from Microsoft Dynamics Partner Source.  Migration tool itself is sort of black box, which connects to your SBF databases and converts them (it doesn’t need any support from Small Business Financials client or even doesn’t call Dynamics GP user workstation, as you probably expect for GP service packs).  One of the important things here to keep in mind – when you install Dynamics GP 9.0, please do not apply any service pack, as migration tool expects it work to be finished by launching GP 9.0 Utilities installed directly from OEM CD Dynamics GP 9.0

3. Launching Dynamics GP 9.0 Utilities.  This step will move you to Dynamics GP 9.0 deployment.  At this point, please review the list of known issues.  We got two of them: upgrade to GP 10.0 fail (had to delete DU000030 table as work around recommended by MBS), plus Security transfer fail (as you may know in Dynamics GP 10.0 Security model is completely redesigned).  Probably good option to work around to move security (for each individual user in the form of user specific roles) is to avoid applying Dynamics GP 9.0 SP4 (apply SP3 only)

4. Upgrade to Dynamics GP 10.0.  As normally in upgrade to Great Plains 10.0 you apply recent Service Pack (currently October 2009 it is SP4) and then you launch GP 10.0 Utilities to convert data and reports

5. Some ideas on Dexterity Customization migration.  Such Dex add-ons as eOne Extender could be simply left in the Company database and then taken care by purchasing licenses for Extender on Dynamics GP 10.0 (including Extender Enterprise).  If you have in-house coded Dexterity module, use the same technique – try first to reapply you Dexterity chunk file on version 10.0 (as data conversion is likely not required, you will keep the same functionality in 10.0).  You may still need help in Dexterity programming in repackaging custom logic into new chunk (where you may need, but hopefully this problem will not happen, to review Dexterity code in order to respect new table fields, etc)

6. Advantages of being on Dynamics GP, versus Small Business Financials.  One of the good examples is Report Writer Graphical reports (such as Payable Management Module Graphical Check form).  Another apparent plus is Dynamics GP eConnect (which could be the gateway to ecommerce, EDI and other integrations).  Also, Dynamics GP has Dexterity modification tool (in SBF you could also use Dex, if you involve external Dexterity consulting partner)

7. Alternatives.  If you feel that Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Ready licensing is out of your budget, consider converting SBF to Microsoft Office Accounting, or two alternative Corporate ERP application vendors: SAP Business One seems to be reasonably priced for Small Business or Non Profit organization.  If you consider SAP B1, we have trained programmer and technical consultants to secure data conversion via export to Text files and import via SB1 Data Transfer Workbench

8. Notes on Great Plains Accounting for DOS and Windows Migration to Small Business Financials.  SBF could be considered as intermediate phase in GPA archaic version upgrade to Dynamics GP (Great Plains Accounting 9.5, 9.2, 9.1 and earlier).  You can also consider GPA migration to Dynamics GP 7.5 and then upgrading to GP 10.0, if desired.  Typical problem for old GPA customers is budget.  You will have to purchase Dynamics GP Business Ready licenses with GPA owned modules respecting discount

Dynamics GP 10.0 on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Notes

If you plan to deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP on Windows 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008, most if not all possible questions and problems are resolved automatically.  There were known issues when you were deploying Dynamics GP 10.0 on Windows 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – to name it – you had to open 1433 SQL Server listening port.  However, it looks like if you are installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008, port opening is happening automatically, so Microsoft is making progress in installation friendliness.  The same should be said about Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System – you can now install Dynamics GP 10.0 from its original CD1 (work around is not required, comparing to Windows XP SP3 and Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007).  Plus, we tested that for Windows 7 you do not have to disable User Account Control as it was required for Vista.  Obviously Windows 7 is just released for deployment in October 2009, but so far most of the feed backs are positive.  Hopefully Windows 7 will lead the parade of the technologies:

1. Testing depth.   We had such customizations and reporting tools in place as eOne Extender Enterprise and Crystal Reports 10.0.  Both of them seem to be compatible with Windows 2008 and SQL Server 2008, we had to figure out how to create ODBC DSN 32 bit on 64 Bit Windows 2008 Server, but this was minor problem.  Crystal Reports were very structured and based on MS SQL Server Views.  In general it is good idea to abstract Crystal Report or any other report: SSRS, Microsoft Access, Excel, etc. from its database query.  Besides Reporting we tried such add-ons, as Dynamics GP Fixed Assets, Project Accounting, Manufacturing, Field Service, FRX.  We tested Dynamics GP over Windows 7 and Windows 2008 Server and MS SQL Server 2008 in November 2009

2. Concerns we heard from Dynamics GP 10.0 users .  Why Dynamics GP starting with version 10.0 opens new Windows application or screen for each new window?  Formerly, for example for Dynamics GP 9.0 all the GP screens were controlled within the one application.  We addressed this question to several Dynamics GP Gurus and we got the answer that it is the way to go and face the future.  For us it is OK, and our accountant can manage multiple windows open at the same time.  However we respect the problem and its potential exposure.  Some of the users computers are relatively restricted in functionality and you have to open your Corporate ERP application to the users with limited decision making options

3. There seems to be a reluctance to face the growing problem of weight and obesity in the adult population today. But can we continue to ignore American obesity in children? We talk about more activity in the playground and healthier foods at the school cafeteria. But is not the real problem in the home?

I am sure all parents worry about the food they give their children.  They recognize that American obesity in children is caused first and foremost in the home and they do their best to follow the recommendations they get from experts like Nutritionists. The trouble is, those experts are not real experts and they are equipped with the wrong information.

Not a single diet…Ever, that has been promoted by Nutritionists, dieticians and diet guru’s has ever gone through genuine scientific research. No human trials have been conducted to test the validity of the claims. The diets are false and most of them are eventually unmasked as false. But there is always a newer and equally bad diet to take its place.

Bad diets, by pseudo experts have turned perfectly healthy people into victims of food addiction. Children eat what the adults eat. If mom is addicted, chances are the children are also addicted.

It is still possible to get back to where we were, but not until the right people get enough pressure from the everyday people to do something about it.  Until then, we each have to concentrate on fixing our own family.

It you are an overweight Parent of overweight children you should not blame yourself. Instead you should take action. Ignore the diets and make a few adjustments to the family menu. It will not involve calories and there are no restrictions on how much you eat, but you need to change some foods.

I know you find it difficult to think about, but that is your addiction influencing you. Letting go of an addiction is always hard. The hardest part is to acknowledge you have an addiction and decide to conquer it. Once it is gone, so are the cravings.  It is easy to follow a healthy food plan when you no longer constantly think about food. It is then you can look in the mirror and smile back. You will know your best reward will soon be there when you look at your children.

If you choose not to act, the children will grow up and be part of an even greater number of people with weight problems and obesity. By then, maybe the number will be three quarters or more. I dare not think how many children will be affected. If you really want to know where to lay the blame for this catastrophe, then let me tell you how it all began.

The late seventies was a time when a lot of wild theories were flying around, many became facts and were later discredited, but a few became dogma. Dogma is a difficult thing to combat.

Some myths have been exposed over the years, but at least one remains.  That is the notion that in order to be a healthy human being, you need to follow a well balanced diet, preferably one devised by a nutritionist or dietician.

In addition, we diet erratically. This confuses our brain which sends messages to our metabolism to start converting the carbohydrate to fat and store it for the famine. What does the body do in a famine? Instead of processing the carbohydrates you eat into glucose to give you energy to burn, it turns it into fat to be stored on your body.
